INAUGURATION

DATE & VENUE:5th September’17 at Nitte School of Architecture

AIM:It was a formal welcome to the students and parents of the batch 2017-2022. This was also to specially welcome the first batch of B.Plan students.

DETAILS & OUTCOME:The formal inauguration was done by Ar. Vidhyadhar S Wodeyar followed by brief addresses by chief guests. There was a felicitation ceremony for students with special achievements. And cultural programmes by the 1st year and 2nd year students. The activities concluded with a parent counseling session by Ar. Arshia.

BIOMIMCRY WORKSHOP

DATE & VENUE:16th August’17 to 22nd August’17 at Nitte School of Architecture

AIM:To give students a hands on experience with design and alternate materials which help in letting their creativity flow.

PARTICIPANTS:All students of 2016 to 2021 batch

TEACHER COORDINATOR:Ar. Vasavi

DETAILS & OUTCOME:The students were motivated to bring out their creativity and they also completed a full installation for the department by the end of the workshop.

ORIENTATION FOR BATCH 2017 to 2022

DATE & VENUE:16th August’17 to 22nd August’17 at Nitte School of Architecture

AIM:The purpose of a comprehensive orientation program is to go beyond familiarizing students with the campus, other fellow students and faculties, and in fact to acclimatize them with what Architecture is all about and what it takes to be a successful architect.

PARTICIPANTS:All students of 2017 to 2022 batch

TEACHER COORDINATOR:Ar. Arshia Khajooria

DETAILS & OUTCOME:It was a weeklong Orientation programme which covered various aspects through numerous activities. The activities were structured to ensure that students have an easy transition to the college environment and also to bring in proper awareness about architecture and the curriculum followed. It was an opportunity for students to interact with their classmates and make friends even before the actual classes began. The various individual and team activities contributed towards their self confidence, analytical and communication skills and thereby prepared them for a focused beginning to B.Arch.

WINTER SCHOOL 2016

DATE & VENUE:26 January’17 to 4 February’17 – Karnataka & Goa

AIM:To study the various aspects of design and observe vernacular nature around Karnataka and Goa.

PARTICIPANTS:All students of 2016 to 2021 batch

TEACHER COORDINATOR:Ar. Mahima Hegde

DETAILS & OUTCOME:The trip was planned for about 15 days and the students covered various locations like Hampi, Halibedu etc. in Karnataka. They also went to Goa. Through the trip they made observations of vernacular architecture, material used, construction techniques and also got the chance to interact with eminent architects. They participated in heritage walks and learnt the history of the respective places with more clarity. During the trip, they also stopped by Nitte Manglore to interact with the students of architecture department and exchange their views and knowledge.

PAPER WORKSHOP

DATE & VENUE:24th September’16 at Nitte School of Architecture

AIM:To engage students in creative exercises and basics of model making.

PARTICIPANTS:All students of 2016 to 2021 batch

TEACHER COORDINATOR:Ar. Vasavi and Dr. Arun Desai

DETAILS & OUTCOME:The students were introduced to basics of paper craft and modeling and individually involved in making models. The benefit was especially in the area of art, creativity and logic thinking. It was also a therapy when folding familiar model keeping the mind and hands active.

BRICK BONDS

DATE & VENUE:Nitte School of Architecture

AIM:To give hands on experience in usage of bricks and cement so as to understand the practical methods and difficulties of working with the materials on site.

PARTICIPANTS:All students of 2016 to 2021 batch

TEACHER COORDINATOR:Ar. Sridevi Adlakha

DETAILS & OUTCOME:The school organized a brick bond workshop to give the students hands on experience of what they were learning. They tried various bonds and also worked with cement which gave them much more clarity to all the theory taught.

ZONASA 2016

DATE & VENUE:Aacharya College, Banglore

AIM:Zonal level meet for architecture students.

VISIT TO TERI

DATE & VENUE:Teri, Banglore

AIM:Institutional visit

PARTICIPANTS:All students of 2016 to 2021 batch

DETAILS & OUTCOME:The students got a close insight into the field of energy, environment and sustainable development. This visit helped in bringing about awareness about development and mainstreaming of sustainable buildings and improvement of performance levels of existing buildings.

VISIT TO JAISIM’S OFFICE

DATE & VENUE:FOUNTAINHEAD, Banglore

AIM:Institutional visit

DETAILS & OUTCOME:Visiting well designed spaces stimulates the creativity of the students and inspires them to think along variant tangents. This visit also introduced them to Laurie Baker’s design philosophy and the famous book by Ayn Rand as Jaisim’s Fountainhead is designed based on these two primarily.

AIM:Institutional visit

DETAILS & OUTCOME:The visit to Indian Plywood Industries and Training Institute gave great practical knowledge and clarity to the students in the aspects of light weight construction and usage of materials like bamboo.

VISIT TO WADIYAR SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE

DETAILS & OUTCOME:The visit to this institute gave students an idea of redesign and planning. The school was formerly used as a boarding school and was later tweaked to fit the requirements of an architecture institution.

VISIT TO MAHABODHI SOCIETY

DATE & VENUE:MAHABODHI SOCIETY, Gandhinagar, Banglore

AIM:Institutional visit

DETAILS & OUTCOME:This experience threw some light into a different style of architecture which had been based on Buddhist principles and also the importance and impact of landscaping in a design.

AR. BHUSHAN’S HOUSE, MYSORE ROYAL ACADEMY, NITESH BUCKINGHAM GATE, RITZ CARLTON & HERMAN MILLER SHOWROOM

DETAILS & OUTCOME:Every visit contributed to the design thinking and practical exposure of the students. It gave them a sense of direction as far as space planning, aesthetics, materials, construction techniques etc are concerned.

Site Visits

YELAHANKA NEW TOWN- 13 October’17

DETAILS:Visit to a real time construction project or designed space allows the better understanding and of the theories to put them into practice. Visiting New Town gave clarity about planning, zoning and land use pattern to the B.Plan students.

VYASA AROGHYADHAMA- 3 & 4 October’17

DETAILS:The institute was visited by 1st year B.Plan and 2nd year B.Arch students. The major objectives were to study and observe vernacular architecture and do documentation.

DENTAL & PEDIATRIC CLINIC- 17 October’17

DETAILS:The visit helped in giving a close insight into the functionality of clinics. Students observed the various aspects like services, circulation etc that helped in their design problem.

ZONASA CONVENTION at HUBLI - 27 September’17 to 2nd October’17

DETAILS:Selected students from 1st year and 2nd year B.Arch attended the convention which was a platform where students across the country came together to participate in various events – casual, formal events, workshops, competitions etc. The students bagged the DEMEANOR TROPHY for T-shirt design.

GUEST LECTURE by AR. ARUNACHAL HOMBALI - 12 October’17

DETAILS:He gave a very motivational talk which gave students an insight into the challenges that they will come across in their field with many examples from the practical field.

GOOD EARTH MALHAR - 17th October’17

DETAILS:The 2nd year B.Arch students visited Malhar to observe the play of modern techniques and vernacular style coming together to ensure sustainable community living. The students got to explore various aspects like materials, aesthetics, detailing etc.
